Gear Question 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I do alot of camping but I am trying to plan my first primitive camping trip. What are the essential items I would need for safety and comfort? Does anyone bring luxury items to connect them to the outside world? If yes, by what means do you power these devices? I am thinking of going for 7-10 days.

Thanks

Well, there are a number of ways to power your devices. I will list some links to sites that sell them and some articles to tell a little more about each of the items.

But remember when you are out camping it is about safety. You can have all the luxury devices you want. But you want to be prepared regardless.

I know that everyone says to use solar power, I AM totally for it, but also bring some back up batteries, lighter fluid, poncho, two flashlights one for back up, a lantern, and of course a map of the area where you will be and some granola bars, that you will only eat if emergency happens.

Here is a list of what you probably are looking for though in regards to powering your devices.

A solar charger, there are many out there, but the one I like is the Suntrica Solar Strap, because you can power more than just 1 or 2 items. It comes with 9 adapters. I have the solar charger for the iphone and ipod touch, but those take some time to charge unless you have a Iphone or Ipod Touch, I would recommend the solar strap from my experience

Also I would bring 2 flashlights, one for back up emergency, 1 for everyday use. Again I would use this one becuase it has a life time warranty and because it floats and is water proof. It is called the Solar Hybrid Flashlight The link goes to an article.

Also a solar lantern, I read this article on hubpages about how it can actually save some money. Which is actually true, because people sometimes spend 100 hundred dollars on batteries alone, especially when they are camping with their families.

here is the charger i saw that i think rocks so far out of all of them, expect the solar lantern, k3 solar charger
